Freelancer won't recognize video card?

Every time I try to play Freelancer on my PC the game gives me a warning that it cant find a 3D video. When I continue anyways, the screen flickers and then another screen pops up telling me it didn't detect a 3D card. My video card is an ATI Radeon HD 5400 series and i already updated the drivers
